Out and about in the Community

Our nursery rooms contiune to make connections with the local care homes in Inverurie. The children and residents both really enjoy the visits and there are always smiles and laughter throughout the session. The children take along activities to enjoy such as story books, sticking and gluing craft, sand and mega blocks.

Out and about in the community the children like to visit the local parks for picnics and to play, developing our gross motor skills. Trips to the River Don are also a favourite where the children like to feed the ducks.

Les Bebes recently went on a trip to the community gardens in Inverurie. The children had a great time planting seeds and looking at the beautiful flowers already there. They found lots of ladybirds and worms in the mud which was proved to be a great interest for children and staff. We had lots of snails in our fish tank again and some of the children went to Strathburn park to let the snails go into the stream, moving on to pastures new.

Learning is fun!

We can hardly believe Spring is upon us! The children are looking forward to Easter with discussions and activities about the season Spring. The children are enjoying interests such insects, life cycles, spring animals, pets and people who help us.

We have some new visitors in Les Petites - some caterpillars - and look forward to watching them grow into beautiful butterflies just like in the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". The children have also had an interest in insects and we currently have worm farm in the room. The children have enjoyed observing the life of worms up close and watching the worms mix up the different coloured layers in their chambers.

Through our Spring interest, we have been looking at all the different animals born in spring such as lambs, chicks and piglets. We have enjoyed learning about chicks hatching and the children had a recent trip to visit the pet’s corner at Hazlehead Park.
